During the months of December through April the most common and beautiful attraction is Maui's annual visitor, the Humpback whale. Driving along the Highway can sometimes be hazardous as there are cars parked everywhere to observe these majestic mammals. The Humpbacks make their annual migration from Alaska and the Bering Sea. While spending their winter here on Maui the Humpbacks breed, calve and give birth to their young.

A trip to Maui would not be complete without a stop in the historic town of Lahaina. Lahaina is a shopping paradise for visitors, but it is also deeply entrenched with history. There is a walking tour through Lahaina, which feature a variety of homes, churches, prisons and the Carthaginian, a replica of a 19th century whaling vessel. Also located on the west side of Maui is the Sugar Cain Train. The train is open-sided, which provides views of the West Maui Mountains and Kaanapali golf course. As the steam engine makes it way through the sugarcane fields of Lahaina, it crosses a long bridge and offers a narrated tour. Located in central Maui you will find the Maui Tropical Plantation. The plantation is one of the more popular attractions and offers a gift shop, restaurant, lei stand and a tram tour. The narrated tour will take you through the different crops of Maui, which feature pineapple, banana, sugarcane, coffee, papaya, avocado and coconut.

A short drive from the Tropical Plantation will take you Maui's newest attraction, The Maui Ocean Aquarium. This recently opened facility features a variety of aquatic life and hosts a spectacular whale learning center and underground aquarium. After spending your day viewing the exhibits you can dine in the restaurant or shop in the spacious gift center.

For the flora lover, Kula is definitely on the top of the list. The Kula Botanical Garden offer 100`s of different types of plants and the winding paths, picnic tables and rest stops make the Kula Botanical Garden a must stop when traveling upcountry.

Sometimes the best attraction can be just a lookout and one of the most scenic stops would be the Pali Lookout. The lookout is located between Wailuku and Lahaina on Hwy. 30 The view afforded from this vantage point is perfect for whale watching during the winter months, Snapping the family or honeymoon photo, or just watching a beautiful sunset.
